Starring Dennis Quaid and Tamlyn Tomita
Jack, an Irish-American union organizer living in New York City gets in trouble with the law and flees to Los Angeles. There he takes a job working as a projectionist in a movie theater in Little Tokyo. Jack meets his Japanese boss's beautiful daughter, Lily, and it's love at first sight. Things get rough from there because her father forbids her to see Jack, it is against the law for mixed race couples to marry and, if that's not enough for the young lovers to deal with, the Japanese have just bombed Pearl Harbor.
This is an amazing story of love and courage. It is also a look at what life was like for Japanese-Americans uprooted from there homes and placed in the internment camps.
I highly recommend this movie, it is in my list of top ten favorite movies. Keep a box of tissues handy, this is a real tear-jerker.
