I hope you will make a few guesses before I tell you the answers! This is a mouth harp - my dad called it a "Jew's" harp. He played it occasionally. My mother in law can play it....sometimes we make play it.. It's so cool. LOL

BINGO! Pecans have a thin shell and must be cracked gently. That is why the cracker has concave ends. It can be adjusted for the size of the nuts. My father's money crop on the farm is pecans. Please don't tell me you tried to crack English walnuts with it. I tried to crack everything with it - had a bag of mixed nuts - almonds, english walnuts, filberts, brazil nuts, you name it. Anyway we gave it away when it didn't work. haha

I'm guessing this is a type of bird call thingy. You twist this thing and if you're good at it you can make different kinds of bird calls with it.

This picture appears much larger than what the object really is. This is a design that is put on merchandise packages and point of sale signage in Japan. You can find these printed on merchandise sold in the states as well. Unlike a UPC, this design is actually used to direct customers to a website. In Japan, consumers can use their cellular phones to take a picture of this symbol and the technology will take them to a company website where they can get information about a product and even get coupons or discounts. Cell phones in Japan often have a chip like the quick pass in America. Many vending machine items can be bought using a cell phone in the same way that people buy gas at the service station with a quick pass. Just place your phone near the pad on the machine and your account is debited for the purchase. Shipping services like UPS and Fedex use this same technology.

None of you came close. This is an inflatable with a design that includes a shiny spot in the middle. It is used in Japan to ward off birds. For some reason this scares away birds or at least crows and ravens. Other devises that I've seen used include displaying dead crows in netting from a pole and stringing long metallic streamers from one end of a field to another, quite striking. The inflatable is more practical in the city obviously.

The combination of Trish's, "incense burner[/i"] and Occupant's "insect repellent is the answer. This is a mosquito coil and is used everywhere in Japan. There is even a way to attach it to your belt for when you are working outside. Nearly all outdoor landscapers will have one attached to their hip. I believe they used to be popular in the states as well. I remember them when I was a child.

Everyone seemed to get this one pretty easy. This is as Occupant described it, a "multi-purpose bottle/jar/can opener." This is very very old but works much better than many of the newfangled can openers.

The first one looks like something from a computer - or electrical grid.
The second one I'm clueless. Since it's hanging from a tree, I'll say some kind of wind sock.
The third looks like a heating element of some kind.
The 4th again I'm clueless - but since True said Trish was close guessing it was a bottle opener, I'll say some kind of can opener.

My guesses -
1) A game board
2) Something to ward off evil spirits
3) An insect repellent
4) I have to go with the others on this one - looks like some type of multi-purpose bottle/jar/can opener

I posted the answers for Whatchamacallit 3 and 4.
But you all still have some work on 1 and 2.
BlueBird is sorta headed in the right direction with 1. It is involved with 'computers'.
If you look closely you will find this whatchamacallit in a lot of places.
Occupant is heading in the right direction for 2.
It would be rare to see this in America, though it is prolific in Japan. Perhaps there would be a market for it in the U.S.
There are your hints...Good luck!

#1 - does it have something to do with an ipod, a palm pilot, cell phone, or one of the gadgets or electronic games people use now? I'm not familiar enough with all that stuff to know much of anything. (Where's a grandkid when I need one?)
#2 - is it something similar to the Indian dream catcher?

1 is tapestry
2 is ...ahhh...a big bumble bee butt to scare bees away
3 is a bug repellent
4 is a jar opener

#1 is used in sewing, it's a seam ripper, or stitch remover.
# 2 looks like something used for a horse bit or reins.
#3, looks like an antique, I don't know what it would be used for - maybe a door latch?
#4 is a gynocology examination tool.
#5 - I used to have one of these. Can't remember the actual name for it, but it's a musical instrument from Africa. You pluck the little metal bars with your thumbs, and each one makes a different musical tone.
#6 - is it a crochet hook?

#1 Is used to open seams.
#2 Is a bit it goes in a horses mouth.
#3 Is a tool used to for cleaning around horse shoes?
#4 Is a toy that comes in a honeymoon kit. I keep a pair with a pearl handle in my back pocket just in case I need it at the drive-in or when sailing with friends.
#5 This is fun instrument or a birdhouse built to keep prey away.
#6 Is a cheese hook?
All of these together could make for some funny jokes.

I posted the answers along with the pictures. Bluebird - well done, you got them all except 3 & 6. True, however, got 3 but not 6. You can keep guessing along with those who haven't played yet, or check out the spoiler.
P.S. Beware of a man who carries a speculum around with him! LOL
